Integrate to build

The International Building Exhibition SAIE, to be held in Bologna from 27 to 30 October 2010, will once again this year be hosting the Ceramics of Italy mark promoting the excellence of Italian ceramic tiles. SAIE serves as a prestigious showcase for the tradition, quality, innovation and creativity of the Italian ceramic tile industry and also offers opportunities for making direct contact with building professionals.

The figures confirm the importance and international scale of the event, which will host 1,500 exhibitors (including more than 300 from outside Italy) in the 228,000 square metres of available exhibition space and is expected to draw an attendance of 166,000 visitors (including almost 7,000 international attendees from more than 100 countries, particularly North America, North Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East). But SAIE is more than just an exhibition: this year more than ever before it will be a major forum where industry professionals can discuss solutions, projects and technologies. “Integrate to build” is the slogan chosen for this 46th edition of the show, reflecting its goal of promoting the long-awaited breakthrough in terms of quality in the building industry. The keyword here is “integration” – integration between skills, expertise, systems and people; integration in terms of improved response, efficiency, safety and services; integration for continuous progress and development.

For this purpose, Confindustria Ceramica is contributing its experience in the field of architecture. The stand designed by architects Dante Donegani and Giovanni Lauda, located in a strategic position in the Bologna fairground’s Services Centre, features a collective exhibition of tiles from member companies. Visitors to the show will be able to admire the very best of 2010 production, from the most extreme forms of innovation through to sophisticated aesthetic research. The stand will also serve as a ceramic info desk, helping to foster an awareness amongst participants of the importance of the use of ceramic tiles. Designers, architects and engineers will be able to get a foretaste of the new lifestyle culture that Ceramics of Italy is promoting around the world.

Also worthy of note is the exhibition Saper Fare Architettura held in hall 29, a restaging of the exhibition devoted to the Central Saint Giles project in London commissioned to Renzo Piano Building Workshop and involving extensive use of coloured ceramic tiles. First held at Cersaie, the exhibition is promoted by Confindustria Ceramica and organised by Edi.Cer.

The unique style and renowned design of Italian ceramic tiles complements the complex building and construction system that makes up the heart of SAIE. This system, consolidated at the show through specialist, up-to-date information, international debates, conferences and seminars, lays firm foundations for the industry’s future even in times of crisis.
